I have been an animal lover for my whole life! Outside of the typical domestic animals like cats and dogs, I have a few others that I really love!
One animal I love is the koala bear! I just remember thinking they looked so cuddly and soft, and then I learned that they can be quite mean, and I found it fascinating that they might not be the sweet, docile animals I always imagined! When I was right out of high school, the zoo in Philadelphia had a koala on loan from Australia named K’Blooey and I got to see him and I was just so enamored!
Significantly less cuddly but loved nonetheless by me are octopuses! I am fascinated by how incredibly intelligent they are! I love watching videos of them or documentaries to learn about them. It is just so cool to be able to witness them be so intelligent, and then to see how they can change to match their environment, it just blows my mind! One of the best documentaries I watched was called My Octopus Teacher. If you like octopuses and haven’t seen that, do watch it!
Finally, I think my other favorite animal is seahorses! It is just so interesting to me how they are the only species where the male gets pregnant and gives birth to offspring! Plus they are one of the most unique creatures! A number of years ago I visited the National Aquarium in Baltimore and they had a seahorse exhibit there. I don’t believe it was permanent, it was a temporary/special exhibit, and I was just so enthralled! My favorite was probably the leafy seahorse because I had never seen a seahorse like it before!
Anybody have any cool facts or stories about koalas, octopuses, or seahorses? I’d love to hear them!
